Bideona is a winery in the heart of Rioja Alavesa. Founded in 2018 by acquiring an existing winery, Bideona offers village and single vineyard wines that display the freshness, elegance and depth of flavours which we believe distinguish the great wines from Rioja Alaves. We cultivate over 300 parcels of extraordinary vineyards on the slopes of the Sierra Cantabria, mainly in the villages of Villabuena de Alava, Leza, Samaniego, Laguardia, Navaridas and Banos del Ebro. The average age of the vineyards is 50 years, and many were planted in the 1920s, 30s and 40s.
Made from high quality, low-yielding vines, from small, old hillside vineyard parcels (parcelas) on limestone soils. About a quarter of the wine is aged for about 6 months in new French oak for added complexity and texture, but no overt oak character.
The wine shows pure and intense primary aromas of dark cherries and black berries with a hint of violet and clove. Medium bodied, with remarkable complexity and concentration. The quality of the fruit shines, displaying the typical character of cooler climate Rioja Alavesa, without being masked by excessive oak aging. The intense fruit is beautifully balanced by fresh acidity, chiselled, chalky tannins and a long, mineral finish. A serious, lightly oaked wine that will benefit from aging up to 8 years. A good match for grilled meats, hard cheese, pasta and rice dishes.
