From the world-renowned Helderberg region of Stellenbosch comes an award-winning range of wines named after South African golf legend, Ernie Els, and skillfully crafted by winemaking legend, Louis Strydom. Having earned the nickname “The Big Easy” as much for his effortless demeanour as for his big heart and philanthropic efforts, Ernie Els is synonymous with all round excellence. This wine embodies these values by delivering full flavour, but gentle approachability. Their flagship of the Big Easy range; spicy and filled with fresh fruit flavours leading to a soft, silky finish. Enjoy with good food and grand company.
The winery was officially opened in 2005, and since then, the focus has been on producing a range of wines, with a particular focus on Cabernet Sauvignon. Recent renovations have transformed the winery into an iconic symbol of the Helderberg region. Their vines are planted on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountains, benefitting from high-potential soils and the ideal growing conditions for their favoured varieties. The slopes feature a granite mother material, high in clay content with mainly Tukulu and Oakleaf soil families. A large portion of the vineyard is devoted to Cabernet Sauvignon with dedicated blocks planted facing north and north-east to absorb as much sunlight as possible. This is the key to producing the fuller and fruitier wines of Ernie Els fame.
Ruby with a translucent rim. Savoury and open with aromatics of iron filings, red and black cherries, and dustings of tomato leaf; all framed in gentle oak-spice. Juicy, with pinpoint balance between freshness and structure, and an alluring thrill of blackpepper spice. Plum and pomegranate on the mid energised with blood-orange, citrusy tang. The tannins are crunchy and glowing, and wrap to the finish with sultry poise.
