The Murphy Vineyards now comprise of 45 hectares under vine of various age. The winemaking facility has expanded from its first crush to a boutique sized, state-of-the-art feature handling some 5,000 tonnes of premium varietal fruit each vintage. The Cellar Door and Restaurant have developed into an impressive riverside destination where the tradition of quality food, wine and customer service continues as always. Trentham is very proud of, and humbled by, the many awards and accolades it has collected over the journey – including hundreds of wine show medals, an impressive array of wine trophies, and various business awards. At present, Trentham holds a strong position in both the domestic and international wine markets and looks forward in the near future to continuing to produce its quality varietal wines and welcoming many more visitors to its stunning location on the banks of the Murray.

Trentham’ s winery has been operating since 1988, where it has grown from the initial 30 tonne crush to a minimal but state-of-the-art facility handling up to 5,000 tonnes of premium fruit each vintage. It allows the flexibility to perform different winemaking styles, resulting in the diverse and always consistent Trentham Estate wines. Today, Anthony is assisted with the making of Trentham’s wines by Katherine Hynes and Helaina Dorreen, along with a dedicated team of cellar and laboratory staff. The winemaking philosophy at Trentham Estate has always been to produce high-quality varietal wines at an affordable price, with an emphasis on full fruit flavour and palatability.

The 45 hectares that make up Trentham Estate’s vineyards sit on a winding riverbank at Trentham Cliffs. The ideal terroir of red loam over limestone soils combined with nurturing water from the Murray River allows the vines to flourish. Meticulously managed by viticulturist Patrick Murphy, the vineyard today is comprised of twenty different grape varieties. The oldest vines were planted over half a century ago. Harvest typically begins at Trentham Estate in mid to late January – slightly earlier than most wine regions of Australia due to the warmer climate of the Murray Darling. Grapes are picked and crushed at optimum ripeness to produce the perfect flavour.

Cabernet Sauvignon vines are perfectly suited to the Coonawarra region, where a magical combination of the terra rossa soil and cool maritime climate produce very high quality grapes. The ripening period is cool and the grapes ripen slowly, retaining flavour and natural acid. The resulting wine is testament to the fruit quality - world class Cabernet Sauvignon with finesse and great ageing potential. The wine shows deep and rich red-purple colour with lifted violet and mint aromas. The palate has great length with balanced cassis fruit and dark chocolate. Immense varietal definition and superb ripe soft tannins.
