Alfrocheiro is a unique variety Portuguese with quite small bunches and berries, reminiscent of Pinot Noir and Trousseau (Bastardo), to which it is genetically related, so the locals like to think of it as the “Pinot of Portugal”. 75% of the handpicked fruit is crushed, cold macerated in stainless steel with the 25% whole bunches at 15°C for 2 days before fermentation for 5 more days. After malolatic fermentation and partial aging in oak barrels for 4 months, the wine has spicy fruit flavors, fresh acidity, and an elegant structure with silky, rich tannins and a very long finish.
