Telhas comes from the top ridge section of the Antes vineyard, with its unique austere granitic soil and “terroir”. This is the probable site of a roman villa, as this block is littered with terracotta tile fragments hence the name Telhas, Portuguese for roof tiles. Co-fermented with indigenous yeast in small open tanks with submerged cap. Fermentation finished in new American oak barrels with battonage followed by malolactic fermentation and 24 months’ maturation. Strong red with purple core. Perfumed nose of violets, ground pepper, roast meat and tar. Exotic flavours of oriental spices and wood with an undercurrent of ripe red fruits. Savoury finish of cedar and vanilla.
